Sue Richardson's budgies
Dear visitors. I would like to show you a few beautiful budgies from Sue Richardson who is a breeder from Atherstone – a town in the heart of England. Her screen name on the forum on the website www.budgerigars.co.uk is Srunicorn693.
Sue is a great and skilled budgie breeder who puts the needs of her breeding budgerigars first. Her love of budgies is very deep and it shows in the time when budgies need her help. Many breeders wave aside and leave the budgie to its own fate in certain situations. Fortunately we can find some breeders who fight to save a budgie right up until the last minute. Yes, this is not strange to Sue at all.
Sue has a beautiful outdoor aviary, shed and a few breeding cages. She rears a few young budgies every year. Her budgies are healthy, beautiful and hardy. You can see some of them on the pictures above. If Sue sends me some more photos I will place them here for you willingly.
I would like to share a story of a small budgie chick who was named Twiglet. Our tiny Twiglet did not have a happy life. After hatching from an egg he was left on his own by his mum and he sat alone. If he stayed without any help he would perish very quickly. But you do not know Sue. She took charge of tiny Twiglet immediately and she became his adoptive mother. I met Sue in that time more. If you think it is easy to foster a budgie orphan then I can tell you it is a big responsibility. A Special food has to have correct consistency and correct temperature. We have to feed in regular and frequent intervals and we are not allowed to overfeed our chick or to feed it too little. The problem with air bubbles in the crop can appear and a lot of other problems. Even a manipulation with the chick involves very stable and sensitive hand and generally very sensitive approach. It is necessary to realize, that our tiny chick is only a few grams of skin and bones, which is almost nothing.
After initial problems the situation was relatively stable. Twiglet ate well and he seemed to be fit. Unfortunately after some time when we thought the worst was behind us sudden complications turned up. We were not able to solve these problems. Our small Twiglet surrendered his battle for life in the end. Fly to Rainbow Bridge our Twiglet. I would like to thank Sue for her extreme effort during this nerve-racking battle.
You can see a cute green hen, Fleur on the photographs here. Fleur is a very self sacrificing parent budgie. She got into severe health problems the end of 2007. Fleur was suffering from so called excessive or chronic egg laying. It is not an entirely rare problem, but it can be fatal for budgie hens. Simply means – a hen is laying her eggs almost all the time. Logically it leads to successive weakening of a hen and if this situation cannot be solved the hen would perish with exhaustion, or the risk of becoming egg bound or even rectum prolapse increases. It is obvious that during excessive or chronic egg laying calcium and minerals are consumed excessively from the birds body. Fortunately we succeeded solving this serious problem and Fleur stopped laying. Because of the traumatic shock or weakening of organism Fleur lost her primary feathers on the left wing. However this problem is going on at present and I believe Fleur will be OK very soon.
I would like to thank Sue at the end of this chapter. She is always on my side, she always supports me and she always helps me to solve a long string of problems.
Děkuji Sue.
Berticek

Berticekek was born a few months ago. He was hand reared a few days after his born because his mum left him and she gave up taking care of him. Fortunatelly a few days after small Berticek found his foster parents and he is a beautifull young boy today. Good luck to you Berticek.
Pic a Boo

Boo a Pic were hand reared all the time since they were born. Their mother was not able to look after them and Sue did not have foster parents for them at their disposal at that time. Fortunately dangerous days shortly after their born were overcome and they were licked into shape by Sue. Now they are very beautiful and healthy birds - real budgie darlings.
