Just a few words of guidance when you are buying your first pet budgie.

Don't spend weeks looking at pictures and deciding which colour bird you are going to buy but spend that time learning about your future pets needs. Both sexes will learn to talk with the proper training but beware when a hen bites it will hurt, okay then that is sorted and you have now decided to buy a male budgie.
First you need a cage
Check out YOUR CAGE on my site and all the information you require is there on one page .
Where to buy ?
I would suggest that you buy your bird from a budgerigar breeder rather than a pet store,in my travels i have found many pet stores do not have the knowledge that the breeder can provide. The Budgerigar Society have a list of their members who will supply birds to the pet market, check out the link . http://www.budgerigarsociety.com/pet_budgerigar_breeders.asp
What do you look for?
You require a healthy eight week old male that is complete in feather and showing the bloom of good health. The breeder may have a cage with a selection of birds for sale, take time and you may see some different personalities or a special colour that catches your eye,do not buy it unless it is over eight weeks old.Ask the breeder what he feeds the birds on ,what seed is used,is softfood supplied or perhaps supplements are offered to the breeders birds, you must feed the same diet initally.
